The Gamecocks upgraded their longtime home before the 2013 season, when the old grandstands at University Field were torn down to make way for a new state-of-the-art press box with suites and radio/tv booths and a 2,000-seat facility that features chairback seating behind home plate.
JSU’s home since a Feb. 15, 1996 doubleheader against Tennessee State, the University Field renovations came full circle before the 2014 season, when the old dugouts that served as the home of the Gamecock baseball and softball teams for years were torn down and new sunken dugouts with restrooms and a dressing facility for the Gamecocks were installed, making University Field one of the best Division I softball facilities in the Southeast.
During the 2018 season, the Gamecocks added a state-of-the-art Daktronics high-definition video scoreboard display that stands behind the outfield wall in right center field. The display is the first high-definition video board in the OVC.
In 2019, an AstroTurf playing surface and drainage system was installed, the first all turf playing field in the OVC and one of the first in the southeast. The new surface includes bullpens for both the Gamecocks and their visitors and eliminates field maintenance and ensures field conditions won't impede JSU's home schedule.
